Technically, Veteran's Day weekend was not a long weekend for Claire. They had no time off for it which was annoying since Chris did. So, on that Monday, we kept her home from school and we took a fun field trip to DC. I have a huge bucket list for the DC area but with kids, you can't do too much in one day, so we chip away at it a little bit at a time. This time, we decided to go to the national mall and see the Washington monument and walk along the reflecting pool to go see the Lincoln Memorial. I had never seen the Lincoln Memorial before, so it was fun. We were blessed with unseasonably warm temperatures and a glorious, sunny day. We had a great time together as a family enjoying the sites and the fresh air and beautiful weather. Chris got to take lots of great pictures and the kids got to run and play in open space. Here are some of my favorite shots from the day.

The Lincoln Memorial from a distance. That reflecting pool is a LOT longer than it looks.

The Capitol is a good 40+ minute walk from where we were, but thanks to a good zoom, there it is, under construction.

And there's the White House! DC is so cool. :)
After our DC adventure, Chris really wanted to go to Firehouse subs. It was a good bit out of the way, but after trying it for the first time, it was sooo worth it. By far, the best sub I've ever had. So yummy. And the kids got cute little fireman hats. :)
On Tuesday, Veteran's Day, Claire did go to school where they had a beautiful Veteran's Day celebration. They honored many local veteran's, including Chris as well as many others all the way back to WWII with a nice breakfast and ceremony. All of the kids in the school lined the sidewalks and surrounded the seating area for the veterans and guests waving their flags. It was a very moving ceremony and awesome that Claire and Chris got to be a part of it all.
